Well, fret not. The silence's broken.

Here's the first(a total of three) Christmas 2008 E-greeting card from PDDS.
Enjoy!

And here's a little update of part 2

Seahawk. SH-60

Well, this is what is rendered for now. The textures are actually incomplete, but for this specific angle and style of rendering, I think it can scrap through.

I don't know when I can find time to finish it up properly, so for now, I think I want a partial closure. Let's hope I will find time in the near future to give this model a proper finish..... but meanwhile this is it.

PS: It's a A2 sized render.

A Hearty Meal

In celebration of the birthdays of 2 of our colleagues and our company itself, we had lunch at The Line at Shangri-la Hotel.

A hearty meal I would say, but really, the photos speak for itself. You can see some of our company fiercest eaters in action!

Excellence

Its been an excellent year. I have learnt lots. I have learnt that its not easy to grow a beard that more than bore a resemblance to a used kiwi brush, someone in our company somehow manages to do just that. I have learnt that Tony Leung can look pretty bad after a fatal incident (we have a self proclaimed Tony Leung lookalike in our company, who also happen to have a fetish for Kiwi Brushes). I have learnt that "Twenty-Four" is not all that is to my miserable leisure time, there is always "Prison Break". And if that is not enough, break them into seasons 1-100. I have learnt that the Starbucks next to Wheelock Place along Orchard Road is a heart break cafe (when some chick tries to pick up a conversation with you while you are ordering your regular mocha, you don't say "NO." and end it there). Apparently some chap in our company simply like to take NO for an answer. I have also learnt that PD Design Studio sometimes operate as PD Hospital, but more frequently converts to PD Cafe. I have learnt that you do not do more than Two Hundred and Four situps at one go, otherwise you get chaffeured via PD Ambulance to PD Hospital for 2 days 1 night stay.

All these are thanks to our fellow colleagues in PD Design Studio.

They have enriched my lifelong learning journey, and made it more meaningful. I swear to god I would have made it to the LifeLong Learner Awards as a finalist would it not be the fact that I am too young to qualify. (I have also learnt that term 'finalist' is for 'near bronze people')

But really, PD Design Studio consists of 5 young chaps who will give our blood and sweat to prove ourselves as worthy and able people. The studio is now a year old. The reason that it is still around and standing tall is simply because of the dedication of our people, the hardwork they put in, the many Sundays and Saturdays burned without complains, and the friendship that has bonded since.

Few days ago on 28th September marked our Studio's 1st year anniversary. It would not have been possible without you guys : my brother KJ, my wife May, our Tony lookalike Raymond and Heartbreak Paul.

I will just like to take this opportunity to say : Thank you for the Excellent Job done, and may we enjoy the fruits of our hardwork in time to come, as I am positive of yet another fantastic year ahead!

To commemorate our 1st year anniversary, here are the Limited Edition PD Design Studio Watches for your viewing pleasure.

A Coffee Love Song

Written between 11th July-16th July, inspired by a pretty barista at my favourite Starbucks...Side effects of working in a Shaolin Temple. Please kindly post your honest opinion on the song...

咖啡厅的恋曲

Verse 1:
你让我陶醉在
你那沉默的身影
在乌节路的咖啡厅勾起情绪
就象满天乌云的天气
被你容光抹去
在那一刻灰色心情被你夺去

Verse 2:
你那陌生的眼睛
写出你我的默契
也许咖啡能拉近这段距离
唱出我寂寞的心灵
让你深深灵听
这首咖啡厅的恋曲唱出我心

Chorus:

View from hotel room (Barcelona)

This is the view from my hotel room in Barcelona. Again, another panorama, this time stitched up from 5 photos.

Below is the map view. The GPS data taken was recorded with the Sony GPS thingy... It's quite accurate, really. You can see for yourself by comparing the photo and the map view.

Was going through my photos folder and found an un-stitched panorama. Must have missed this amongst the hundreds of photos I took then.

Love Autopsy

On a few occasions, Raymond and I brought up how much we loved the song Love Autopsy in the movie Music And Lyrics and thought that it was a waste that they didn't write a full version for the soundtrack version. So I thought, why not i try to do it for them just for kicks. Was humming it half way through bathing and then i decided to sit down and finish it before i turn in.Wahaha, hope those you guys who like the movie wouldn't kick me in the nuts for this.

Love Autopsy

Figuring out you and me is
Like doing a love autopsy
They could operate all day long and
Never figure what went wrong
Even if you open my heart and
Sew it back up
You wouldn’t figure out
What love is all about

Figuring out love is like
Breaking my heart and fixing it up
You could search a lifetime and might
Still end up where you start
But if you find a way to
Ease my lonely heart
You would have figure out
What love is all about

Love autopsy
For you and me
Love autopsy
Love…
What went wrong

On a Train...

Typical thoughts when a person's on a train if they are idling. This song is penned between 19th - 21th june, partly inspired by music and lyrics' theme song sang by Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant - "Way Back Into Love" that became the company anthem for the past few days. It's been a while since i busked at the Orchard Tunnel so it was quite hard to sing along while strumming my guitar but nevertheless, i manage to record a raw demo version after a few hours. Anyway, this is almost the final cut of the music and lyrics of the song with only some minor errors,if any, to amend. Hope i don't sound too bad. Gotta record it with a proper guitar arrangment when my fingernails grow back.Hehe...

On a Train…

On a train I sat there wondering
Where my life would take me to
Hoping I would cross dream avenue
If I kept on dreaming too
Maybe lovers’ lane would’ve have come my way
If I waited in line too
But these Monday mornings on a train
They lead nowhere near a truce

Chorus:
(Can)Between my reality and (be)the way I want it to
Be my fantasy where my hopes and dreams come through
Would I be able to
Find my way into a dream come through

As I sat there staring at my shoes
And my mind’s searching for a clue
As to why I am stuck in angry Ville
Hating what I cannot feel
But I believe life have its good news
For those who face its truth
With this thought in my head on the morning train
For my heart to affirm my will

Repeat chorus

Bridge:
Waiting for the next
Destination of my faith
hoping there will be a gal
Who would hop on to this train
I would sing my songs
All those that belong
To her heart and hope that it
Would make her sing along

Chorus 2:
She would be my reality my hopes and dreams come through
Would I be able to love her deep and true
Would I be able to
Find my way into a love that’s true.

Collaboration

Can't resist but to pose this for fun.

Not sure if it will materialize. We are now hoping to combine the 2 projects into 1. It was never the intention, but now we see the possibilities... heh.

A Tribute to the new members of the T.E.A.M...

For satisfying our cravings for coffee, toast and pancakes...we salute u!

A Friend's Song...

Written by my friend Daozhi when he was around 17 years old, re-arranged and recorded around 2 years ago during my NS days. It remained one of my favourite songs till this day.

My Thoughts .Your Hopes

There are times when doing isn't everything
When confusion & doubts start setting in
And in my corner of darkness.
I have asked
What in life is worth living for?

There are times my weathered soul cries
Seeking for the wings to fly,
Up into the clear blue sky
Hoping I can see your light
Like tears falling from my eyes
Sadness shall be driven away
And in your word I shall find
For the peace and joy in due time....

There are times my hopes and dreams just can’t find
A Love that forgives and gives me peace
And in my heart I have prayed to you
I have asked
What is love when my life’s yours?

Old compositions...

Alcohol, you are my best friend

Songs have the magic of encapsulating melancholic and elusive thoughts and feelings into a definite form to be reflected a upon. There are moments in life that trigger certain strong emotions good or bad that we find hard to let go. This song was inspired by my long time secondary school friend jiarong, lyrics taken from thoughts reflected in his blog entry. A simple song that was written to encapsulate his sadness, to be left behind so that he would be a much happier person.

Lyrics:

Night after night
when all is down
and the world is so dark
at this unearthly hour...
noone to call...
noone to talk to
i turn to my best friend...you

not because I love you but becoz you make me
forget who I am
living in this world
only numbness
reminds me of
how lonely we are inside

even for the night
I forget I am in pain
I Just need your warmth inside
To last me through the night

Chopper

In an attempt to update our miserable blog, I have decided to showcase a Work-In-Progress which seriously have no tentative date of completion in sight.

Base loosely on a model kit which I tried to built. I only found some hi-res photos at a very late stage.

Lots of details will probably need to come in during the texturing portion. I hope this model will soon be finish.....

Texturing in progress as of 26th June... slow slow. Unwrapping this model is a bitch, that's all I can say...

More slight updates as of 28th June... Several people complained about the lack of dirt and scratches. I guess these will come in later. Scratches will definitely be in, as for dirt, I don't know how dirty I want it to be...

Anyway, still lots to add, bump maps are still incomplete, specular maps have to be done more accurately...

初恋

The first draft was written on 17 April Tuesday, between 3:15 - 4:55AM. After not being able to fall asleep, i switched on my com and doodled around with Ling Zhi Xuan's version of "Li Ren" playing in the background. Started to recall the conversations on the night when Raymond, Chris and I went for coffee after watching Sunshine at the picture house. So i started to pen down the lyrics with the help of a dictionary and some good song lyrics as reference as i continued to listen to Li Ren and recall what those conversations were about.

New members of the PD Design Studio

Hermit Crabs.

After researching for some time, I finally got the crabs from a pet shop at $10 each. Spent the days that followed worrying whether they will die on me, which prompted endless searches on the internet for the dos and don'ts.

Bought a tank as well, but it turned out to be too small for the 3 of them. I will probably get a bigger tank this weekend, if time permits. Right now, the tank is too damn plain, watch out in this blog for updates as we decorate and upgrade to a bigger tank!!

A Post Dedicated to Our Design Studio By Ken

You know you are in need of some serious help if you repeat the same jokes for more than 3 weeks. You probably belong to the category of "No-Life Sad Twats" if you never seem to get out of the same discussion topics for months. The fact that your company is merely a 5 man operation of "24" American TV series addicts is almost disastrous.

Your lunch topic, "24". Your lame jokes "24". Your creative ideas, "24". Your maximum capability for mathematical plus and subtraction, bloody "24".

You are in deep shit.

PD Design Studio blog has been around for a month. Someone's got to write about "it". About what you asked? Bloody "TWENTY-FOUR" of course. True, May might have spilled out the fact that David Palmer was assasinated before Raymond get to Season 5. Paul might have more spoilers up his sleeves than our client's usual changes of moving the text blurb 5mm to the right. KJ might have mixed up Jack Scoffield with Michael Bauer. Raymond might have already close his brower for fear of spoilers ahead. But someone's gotta do it. And that heavy responsibilty lies on my shoulder.

I am burnt out with the recent dealings with the clients and projects. But I thought I could do something for our little blog corner. (remember, someone's gotta do it). Oh, don't you worry about spoilers, I aint got the energy to spilled out Philip Bauer is actually Jack Bauer's old man.. oops Raymond.

What I am doing is simple, just cut and paste a "24" article I wrote from my personal blog here. Easy task, some rediting, re-mastering, you get one full article feature on yet again, your favourite TWENTYFOUR!!

The recent atmosphere in the office of regular burning nights and hectic schedule long needed a break. I thought this blog post might bring you guys some smiles. So sit back and relax, here goes my written article about T......F... I don't have to spell it out.

(The below article is a write up from my personal blog entitled "Before I Knew It I was Hooked")

Enjoy.

Before I Knew It I was Hooked"

"The following takes place between 7am and 8am".

By the time it goes : "The following takes place between 6am and 7am", which is day 2, Jack Bauer would have already save the world under 24 hours yet again. Inevitably.

Its the same regime, expected outcome where the good prevails and the villians eliminated. The golden globe award winning TV series "24" stars Kiefer Sutherland, in reel life a CTU (Counter Terrorist Unit) agent dedicating his whole life for his country. Its not hard to imagine how successful the show is. Sutherland, who grabbed the emmy awards for his role in "24" signed a 3 year US$40million contract, repriving his role as Jack Bauer again.

Barely six months ago, when "24" season one landed on the sofa in my room (compliments of my younger brother who got everyone in the office discussing "24" during every god damn lunch), I left it sitting there for another 2 months.

Last night, I finished Season five.

For someone who does not worship TV and who would rather past his time hitting golf balls at the range, "24" has definitely twisted some of my leisure habits, drastically. I am now victimised. Great god of media have me hooked on high budget TV serials such as "Prison Break" and "24".

It is not surprising for me to get hook on serial dvds. But 4 years ago, something astonishing happened.

My good old dad is an extreme workaholic. He wakes up at 6.30am every morning, works 7 days a week, comes home late from work, and when the Asian Financial Crisis hits, he works 10 tens harder to fight back his construction empire. He went to China, set up his new plant, worked his ass out, and took his poor old lad (Myself) along to carry out his sadistic mission of torturing oneself at work.

One fine day, he cut short his work hours and dissappear from his office before lunch. I later learned that he has dedicated the rest of his days watching TV serials while his son is working his ass out in the sick China factory in Qing Pu, a southern back dated town away from Shanghai towards Suzhou. And it went on for a couple of weeks.

Of course this was for a very short period of time, before long he felt an itch in his backside and he's off to Totureville again. This is my good old man, whom I respect as father, a true businessman and a not to mention a devoted sadist at work.

Such is the lure of good TV serials. Don't get me wrong, I am not all ready to jump into the bandwagon of screaming housewives and aunties oogling at Korean men starring in Korean soap operas (May? You there?). But TV shows with budget matching that of Hollywood's movies does turn me on, very.

"24" season 6 have already premiered in the US. And the counter terrorist bug has already hit me. "Hands UP! CTU!! Put your hands over your head and slowly lower you weapon..." I am beginning to hear this in my head now....

Avatars. Very cute avatars

10 avatars you can use for your MSN or anything else. Would be nice if anyone ask where you got these cute little things and you let them know about us.

Anyway, sketches by Raymond and painted by Paul.
